We have added support for creating and managing Docker-based OCI containers directly through the intuitive GUI interface.

Aventurin{e} 6110R Brings Full OCI Container Support to BlueOnyx

We're excited to announce the latest update to Aventurin{e} 6110R, the powerful Incus management GUI seamlessly integrated with BlueOnyx. This release introduces native support for Docker-based OCI (Open Container Initiative) containers, allowing you to deploy and manage modern application containers directly alongside traditional Linux Containers (CTs) and Virtual Machines (VMs) – all from the familiar BlueOnyx interface.

Spotlight: Seamless OCI Container Integration

The headline feature is full GUI support for creating and managing OCI containers. Leveraging Incus' built-in OCI capabilities, you can now easily deploy popular Docker images without leaving the BlueOnyx admin panel.

  • Dedicated "Add an OCI Container" button on the Instances page for one-click creation.
  • Select from thousands of official Docker Hub images.
  • Full lifecycle management: start, stop, console access, snapshots, backups, and resource limits – just like CTs and VMs.
  • Advanced configuration options, including environment variables for fine-tuned deployments.

The Demo-Version of Aventurin{e} allows you to create 1 Container or VM, plus an additional 3 OCI instances. The full version from the BlueOnyx shop allows you to create and manage up to 1024 Instances of type CT, VM or OCI.

This brings the best of modern container workflows into your virtualization stack, perfect for running lightweight services like Nextcloud, databases, or microservices alongside your existing CT/VM workloads.

Enhanced Reseller and Client Management with Incus Projects

We've also significantly improved multi-tenancy and delegation using Incus' native Projects feature:

  • Administrators can create dedicated Projects to isolate resources for resellers or clients.
  • Granular limits per project: Set maximum total instances, plus specific quotas for CTs, VMs, and now OCIs.
  • Clear overview of usage across all instance types, with color-coded indicators for quick monitoring.

Resellers log in to their BlueOnyx account and manage only their assigned project's instances – securely and independently.

Improved Network Stack

  • CTs, VMs and OCIs can be created either on vlan-br0 to expose them via OpenVSwitch and VLANs to the public. Or they can be put on private networks (incusbr0 or networks you created via the GUI).
  • Existing CTs, VMs and OCIs can be switched from one one network to another via the GUI.
  • Incus Arp has been updated to also handle OCI Containers seamlessly and provide network connectivity for them.

Other Highlights

  • Improved resource usage display with percentage badges and single-row summaries for at-a-glance monitoring.
  • Refined project editing interface for easy quota adjustments.
  • Continued polish to the responsive GUI theme introduced in recent BlueOnyx updates.

These enhancements make Aventurin{e} 6110R more flexible than ever for hosting providers, enterprises, and anyone running mixed workloads on Incus.

Update today via the BlueOnyx GUI (Server Management > Software Updates) and start deploying OCI containers in minutes!

Happy virtualizing!
